My aunt and cousin are in the BYU Gamelan Bintang Wahyu Ensemble, and they had a show recently that I went to. I think the Gamelan Bintang Wahyu is from India. (edit: It is from Bali, not India. Thanks Aunt Myrna for the update!) Anyways, it was a very interesting show.
Their performance was followed by the BYU Panoramic Steel Orchestra. I have not been to a steel orchestra performance before, and it blew me away. Ten or fifteen drum sets sounded like a full orchestra! Wow. I don't know how to explain it, but the sound is surprising and amazing.

Eric, I didn't know that you went! Thank you. And thanks for the awesome pictures. Can I share them with some of the other people in the group? And our ensemble is from Bali. Although, like India, Bali is predominantly of the Hindu religion. (Bali is a tiny island right beside Java.)
ReplyDeleteThanks again!
Hey there Aunt Myrna! Don't know if you will get this comment back, but ya, for sure you can share the pictures. I actually took a few hundred.. (230 i think... lol) So I could burn a cd or something if you want to see them all. let me know
ReplyDeleteYes! That would be awesome! Thank you so much. I am glad you went to the show. Wasn't the pan steel awesome? We were dancing very quietly backstage, about 12 of us. Way fun!
ReplyDeleteThose are some awesome pictures! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI love steel drums, they sound awesome. My roommate Kelsey was in a steel drum band in high school, and I have one of their Christmas CDs, it is so fun to listen to.
